Planting & Transplanting - Timing is Everything

Plants go dormant in the winter months.  The best time to plant or transplant a shrub or tree or grass - is in the winter.  At this time the plant will get plenty of rain and time - in order to start to get established in its new position before the drying summer sun arrives.  This will mean less watering to keep the plant alive.
If you are planning to move a larger shrub or tree - cut a ring around the tree in the previous winter.  Breaking all of the roots in a ring around the plant.  This will force the plant to produce a compact ball of new rootlets which will help the plant survive its move.

Whenever planting - give the plant a good drink initially and your plant should not require more water - if planted in the winter.

The second best time to plant is in the spring.  The worst time to plant is in the height of summer.  If you do need to plant in summer - make sure you water the plant regularly.  Making sure the plant does not dry out drastically and die.
